Blade of the immortal is a manga that was first started in 1994 and has been going ever since. Blade of the Immortal manga series by Hiroaki Samura. The series won an Excellence Prize at the 1997 Japan Media Arts Festival and the Will Eisner Comic Industry Award in 2000 for Best U.S. Edition of Foreign Material. Blade of the Immortal is being released in the United States by Dark Horse Comics and is up to 19 volumes. As of November 2007, Dark Horse will ceased publishing Blade of the Immortal in a monthly format, choosing to concentrate solely on the collected editions.
As I live in South Africa where it’s kinda hard to get hold of manga I couldn’t firstly find any copies of it let alone back issues from 94. I don’t like starting things in the middle and seeing as i couldn’t get it anyway I just shrugged it off, until now that is.
Let me just give basis of the story before i continue any further. The story follows Manji, a highly skilled samurai, who has a slight edge on the competition mainly because no wounds can kill him, making him somewhat invincible. In the past Manji was by no means a good man, and killed many samurai. At some stage he gains Immortality but it’s only after the death of his sister that he sets oout on his quest to end his agelessness, and to make amends he will kill 1000 evil men.
Thats really all i know about the show, but stories like that are generally the types I enjoy the most. So I am as you can imagine eagerly awaiting the anime series, the series has been released but only 2 episodes are thus far. I like to wait and built up a little collection before i start watching, cause watching one at a time is really frustrating I find. If the anime lives up to the manga, I’m we will all be in for a treat.
